Re:                   Mandatory Intern Dress Code (Updated May 24, 2016)

for All Orientations, Meetings, Programs and Work Days

Congratulations on being selected to participate in the Atlanta Bar Association Summer Law Internship Program.  In order for you to have a successful internship, you need to dress appropriately. The Program requires that you adhere to the attached dress code at all times during your all orientations, programs, work days, and intern meetings. Failure to adhere to the dress code outlined below can and will result in your termination from the program.  Deviation from the dress code requires the advance approval of an intern coordinator.  In other words, this dress code is mandatory.

If you feel you will have trouble complying with the dress code for financial reasons, please come to one of the program coordinators and we will assist you in finding acceptable options to wear to work.  If you are not sure whether you should wear something, err on the side of caution or ask one of the program coordinators before you wear it.

In general, you should exercise good taste and common sense when selecting appropriate business attire.  Work attire should be clean, pressed and wrinkle free, without holes or frayed areas. As you are high school students who have not yet developed a full compliment of formal business attire options, you are not necessarily expected to wear a suit each day to work.  However, you are required to dress appropriately for your internship.  Please also keep in mind the possibility that you may be asked to attend court or a deposition or client meeting.  On such occasions, traditional business attire will be expected.  It is best to be prepared for this possibility by keeping a tie or business jacket at work so that you will not have to miss out on these opportunities.

This dress code is an attempt to provide you with some concrete guidance.  Do not test the limits.  We do reserve the right to amend the dress code as needed.
