Do's
- Pursue excellence.
- Be responsible.
- Be properly rested so you can do your best each day.
- Be prompt each morning. In fact, be early.
- Observe firm policies at all times.
- Be professionally attired no matter how others may be dressed.
- Be professional at all times.
- Be respectful of your fellow workers.
- Refer to everyone as "Mr." or "Ms." unless someone insists you call them by their first name.
- Learn the names of your co-workers and personnel and greet them when you meet them during the work day.
- Say "Yes Sir" and "Yes Ma'am" instead of "Okay" or "Uh huh."
- When you are in need of work tell your supervisor and also let others know you are available for additional projects.
- Be enthusiastic about each project, no matter how boring or exciting.
- Determine from your supervisor what is acceptable for you to do if there are times when you don't have a work assignment.
- Ask questions if the project is not clear.
- Double check your work.
- Take pride in your work.
- If you are going to be late, call and let your supervisor (mentor) know. Speak to someone live -- do not only leave a voice mail.
- If you are going to miss a day from an illness or family emergency, call and let your supervisor, mentor, and Courtney Taylor know.
- If invited to a firm/office event, do your best to attend.
- Thank members of your firm/office who extend acts of kindness to you. Do so by written note.
- Turn your cell phone off when you get to work each day.
- Enjoy your experience.
Here are the Don'ts
- No personal telephone calls.
- No cell phone usage during the work hours.
- No iPods
- No "getting unaccounted for" when you handle a delivery outside of the firm.
- Don't concern yourself with other people's business.
- Don't read newspapers, books, etc. during work unless part of your project.
- Don't leave work early or exactly the time your day is supposed to end.
- Don't let other people impact your approach to -- or performance in -- your work.
- Don't use e-mail for other than work-related issues.
- Don't use the internet except for work-related issues.
- To state the obvious, don't sleep at work.
- Don't waste this experience.
